SESSILE OAK
leaf and acorns

SESSILE OAK (Quercus petraea)

This tree grows up to 40m in height. It is a domed tree with hairy leaves and stalkless acorns.

The sessile oak flowers in May; the males in catkins, the females in clusters.

The acorn cups measure 12-18mm in diameter. The acorns appear in clusters of up to 6 and ripen the same year.

The trunk is smooth and long, and is a purplish-grey colour.
