COLLARED DOVE
Collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto)

The collared dove has greyish-pink plumage and a black 'collar' round the neck, It may be seen singly or in pairs, although flocks may form where there is plenty of food. It grows to 31-33 cm in length with a wingspan of 47-55 cm. The adult weight is 170-240g.

It lives in gardens and parks, on farms and in the countryside especially when humans are nearby. It does not like high regions of the country and prefers gardens and country conditions to built up areas. Collared doves can be seen all year round.

It eats seeds and grain, preferring to feed on the ground. However it will perch on roofs and wires.

It's call is a monotonous repeated.cooing sound.

Collared doves lay 2 eggs which need 14-18 days to incubate. The young fledge at 15-19 days.

Collared doves can live up to 16 years.
