DOGWOOD

The dogwoods are a group of 30-50 species of deciduous woody shrubs and trees in the family Cornaceae.

Most species have opposite leaves but some alternate. The fruits are red, blue or white and are called drupes. They have one or two seeds. The flowers are clustered and have four parts. They are usually white or yellow.

Dogwoods are small hard wood shrubs with gnarled and twisted trunks and branches.

Dogwoods are used as food plants for some species of moths and butterflies.
